ETIAS eligibility and benefits
In conformity with the EU immigration rules in force to this days, Nationals of Vanuatu have the right to travel to the 34 EU and Schengen Area Member States without the requirement for any document other than their valid Passport. Such rights allow Citizens of Vanuatu to travel to 34 countries across Europe for either leisure, business and trade, transit or medical treatment for a total stay never to exceed 90 days within 6 months. With year 2024, these provisions will to a small extent change since a valid Visa Waiver will be also necessary when coming to EU / Schengen Area Countries for short visits.
The chief objectives of ETIAS System are set to be: offering visitors from Vanuatu and other Visa Waiver Countries faster and more efficient border control checks upon arrival at the EU, diminishing the rate of cases of border rejections and creating a safer travel environment within Europe and around the Union’s external Borders.
The requirement to have a valid ETIAS is indeed expected on the long term to foster the diplomatic and commercial connections between EU itself and Visa Waiver Countries, while on the other hand building a more secure structure to protect the Schengen Area’s Borders. Moreover, it has been predicted that a vast majority of ETIAS applications will receive a positive feedback while, and within 3 days only.
To submit their application for ETIAS all candidates, including minors, are asked to fill out a brief electronic form where they are to report, in a complete and truthful way, their personal data and contact details, scheduled travel details and also to answer a short set of background check questions.
Once the application feedback is available, in most cases within 72 hours and with a positive response, ETIAS Visa Waiver will be sent to the personal e-mail of each individual applicant.ETIAS terms of use for Vanuatu Nationals
ETIAS Visa Waiver to citizen of Vanuatu is than valid for 3 years starting, or until passport expiry date, from its date of issue and allows for multiple entries in Europe provided that each trip complies with the general limitations for purpose and duration of stay as mentioned above and that the passport always has a minimum of three months of remaining validity for the entire permanence inside ETIAS Area.
When arriving in the EU, whether air, land or seaway, Border Control Officers can at any time exercise the authority to ask ETIAS holders from Vanuatu to present supporting documents to assess the purpose of their travel and to make sure there is no intention whatsoever to overstay in the ETIAS Area.
Among the supporting documents that might be required are:- Return ticket to the country of origin
- Onwards ticket to a non-ETIAS country
- Proof of sufficient funds to support one’s stay in the ETIAS Area
Any person who is willing to move, work or study in the EU on a long-term basis will not be considered eligible for ETIAS and is still required to apply for Consular Schengen Visa.
On the other hand, the Visa Waiver can be used for short training programs provided that the stay in Europe will not exceed the limits cited above and that the receiving school or institution accept scholars travelling on an ETIAS and therefore not holding a Schengen student visa.
Also, it is important to recall that ETIAS is only necessary and valid for journeys to the 34 European Countries that are either part of the European Union (Ireland excluded), the Schengen Area or de facto members of the latter.
