ETIAS for Citizens of Trinidad and Tobago
Trinidad and Tobago citizens qualify to request ETIAS from early 2025 for journeys towards 34 Countries in Europe
ETIAS candidates must hold a valid passport of Trinidad and Tobago
ETIAS as a necessary prerequisite for visitor whose travel purpose is either business, tourism, transit and medical treatment
Aggregate stay in the ETIAS Area as a whole must never be longer than 90 days within 6 months.
ETIAS inception and Visa Waiver rights
In the 2016 resolution that set the groundbreaking of the ETIAS System, the EU and Schengen Area Member States confirmed that citizens of Trinidad and Tobago will continue to benefit Visa Waiver rights to the such Countries and that therefore they too will, from early 2025, need to obtain, in most cases, an ETIAS Visa Waiver for their Europe-bound journeys.
ETIAS requirements and limitations
Obligation to hold a valid ETIAS will not affect holders of Trinidad and Tobago passport that are already resident in one of the 34 ETIAS Countries Area and have a valid Schengen Visa or Permit of Stay (excluding persons who possess a national visa or permit of stay issued by Cyprus).
Tourism/leisure/family visit together with commerce and trade, transit and medical treatment are indeed the only travel purposes covered by ETIAS, and even in such cases the total stay in the ETIAS Area will not be unlimited. A maximum stay of 90 days every 6 months is only allowed.
Travelers from Trinidad and Tobago looking to work, study or move to one of the 34 ETIAS destinations will hence not be able to use their Visa Waiver rights since they will have the legal obligation to obtain a Consular Visa prior to the start of their trip. More specifics about ETIAS eligibility criteria and allowed travel purposes are available here.Use of valid ETIAS upon travelling
It must be noticed that holding an ETIAS Visa Waiver itself does not give an automatic certainty that the Trinidad and Tobago passport holder will be allowed to enter the EU Borders since the final decision on this aspect is always and only responsibility of the Border Control Enforcement Officers.
Visitors coming to EU / Schengen Area from Trinidad and Tobago may always be required to provide further documents and proof to assess the genuine purpose and duration of their trips such as:
return ticket to origin country
onwards ticket to a non-ETIAS Member Country
proof of sufficient funds to support the stay in the ETIAS Area
A health insurance is not a compulsory prerequisite for Visa Waiver travelers but is anyway strongly recommended to hold one.
In order to avoid problems while at the EU Border Control it is absolutely recommended that all data inputted in the ETIAS Application form by the candidates from Trinidad and Tobago are complete, correct and truthful.
EtiasEU will bear no responsibility in case of false or non-correct input data.Additional details on ETIAS validity and use
Once approved ETIAS Visa Waiver will, in most cases, be sent to the e-mail of the petitioner within 72 hours.
ETIAS Visa Waiver is valid for 3 years starting from its date of issue and it allows multiple trips towards any of the 34 ETIAS Countries.
Applicants whose passport expire in less than 3 years must notice that their ETIAS will cease to be valid along with the passport used for the request.
Throughout the entire stay in ETIAS Area, for each single travel, the Trinidad and Tobago passport is required to hold at least three months of remaining validity.
Also recommended but not mandatory is to carry a hard copy of the granted Visa Waiver that is, as a matter of fact, always digitally linked to the passport of the voyager.
