Slovenia in European culture and politics
Positioned in central Europe in an area that is predominantly mountainous and rich with forests, Slovenia is one of the fastest growing realities in the whole continent.
With strong cultural connections linking the country to Italy and Austria in particular, Slovenia once was part of Yugoslavia, but it managed to be the first of the Yugoslavian Republics to gain independence and to subsequently join the European Union.
As a matter of fact, while many of the Independent Nations that were established after the fall of Yugoslavia are still not members of EU, Slovenia was the first among such group to join the Union and is to this day the only one that successfully became part of the Schengen Area.
This of course means that from 2025 Slovenia too will be requiring ETIAS to visitors that have a passport issued by one of the 60 Countries allowed to enter a series of European Nations without a visa.ETIAS to Slovenia: what will change from 2025?
Until the end of 2023, Visa Waiver travelers will still be able to travel to Slovenia and other EU/Schengen Area Member States without the need for other mandatory documents but their travel passport. This Visa Waiver rights currently allows visits to Europe for either leisure, business, transit or medical treatment for a maximum stay of 90 days in 6 months. Starting form early 2025, however, this will change since a valid ETIAS Visa Waiver will be also required to those willing to visit enter Slovenia and fellow Schengen Area Member Nations for short trips.
Although this one more document will be necessary in order to arrange the trip to the EU/Schengen Area, the application process for the new Visa Waiver named ETIAS has been confirmed to be a fast and swift procedure.
Also, the ETIAS System will allow for faster and more secure border control checks upon arrival in Europe. According to EU officials report this provision is therefore expected to enhance the economic and cultural connections between EU itself and Visa Waiver Countries while also granting a better protection of the Schengen Area Borders.
