Nicaragua citizens with a valid passport will indeed, from 2025, be authorized to digitally submit their application for European Union’s Visa Waiver ETIAS.
ETIAS for Nicaraguans: general terms and conditions
Nicaragua citizens will be required to obtain an ETIAS from 2025
ETIAS mandatory in most cases for tourism/family visit, business, transit and medical treatment journeys alike, to any of the 34 ETIAS Area Countries
ETIAS valid for 3 years or until passport expiry date and allowing multiple entries
Aggregate stay in the ETIAS Member Countries must never exceed the limit of 90 days within 6 months.
Electronic application and delivery system
Must hold a passport of the Republic of Nicaragua with a minimum of 3 months of remaining validity throughout the entire stay ETIAS Area
Visa Waiver ETIAS credentials

In order to start the application process itself candidates will be demanded to just have 3 basic credentials such as:- Hold a valid passport issued by the Republic of Nicaragua
- Have a valid e-mail address
- Possess a valid card on other electronical payment method for the ETIAS tax payment
To apply for ETIAS Visa Waiver
The request process was outlined to be fast and simple and should not require applicants more than 10 minutes to input their data.
The required data for ETIAS application include:
- Full name and surname
- Surname at birth
- Date of birth
- Place of birth
- Birth country
- Passport number
- Passport’s authority and place of issue
- Passport’s issue and expiry date
- Contact details including a valid e-mail address
- Planned arrival date in ETIAS Area for the first scheduled travel
- First country of intended stay in ETIAS Area
- Background and general eligibility questions
ETIAS issuance timing
When the ETIAS request is sent through the EU institutions and Security Databases will be controlling all the relevant information and provide an outcome, that will be exclusively sent via e-mail to each applicant, in usually no longer than 72 hours.
Travelers that for any reason need to urgently receive feedback to their ETIAS application are invited to flag the “urgent procedure” button in the application form.Travelling on a valid ETIAS
Once obtained the Visa Waiver will be suitable to enter each of the 34 ETIAS Area Countries via air, land or sea borders and regardless of the point of origin of journey.
It must always be remembered that ETIAS Visa Waiver is appropriate only for citizens of Nicaragua with ordinary passport whose stay in the ETIAS Nations shall never pass 90 days within 180 days and whose purpose of the trip will be either business, tourism, transit or medical treatment.
Short term family visit and short-term training courses can be filed under touristic purpose as long as the actual stay in the ETIAS Area complies with the aforementioned threshold of ninety days.
Nicaragua National aiming to study on a long-term basis, to work or to reunite with their family in the EU are thus not considered eligible for ETIAS Visa Waiver and are required to apply for a Consular Visa. Additional information about ETIAS terms of use and exceptions available here.
The passport used for the ETIAS application must have a remaining validity long enough to cover for the whole duration of the trip planned to the ETIAS Area with a surplus of three full months.
Upon arrival at the EU border ETIAS holders might always be asked for further documents to prove the genuine reason of their visit and to attest there is no plan to overstay in the ETIAS Area.Such supporting documents could include:
- Return ticket to the country of origin
- Onwards ticket to a non-ETIAS country
- Proof of sufficient funds
- Any other document that could demonstrate the actual aim of the journey
A health insurance, while mandatory for those whose possess a Schengen Consular Visa, is recommended by not compulsory to use ETIAS Visa Waiver.
