About Montenegro
Balkan gem Montenegro is one of the youngest Nations in Europe but can boast a prestigious, noble and ancient cultural heritage. Sharing part of its land borders with EU Member States, its proximity to political Europe helped Montenegro building a solid trading and cultural bond with many of the EU Countries.
This overall closeness would probably made Montenegro an ideal member country of the Union itself, but the membership application protocol is still ongoing, and the Balkan State than still remains to this day a nonmember of EU.
Nevertheless, the partnership between the two parties is stable and profitable on both sides and it is therefore no awe that Montenegro citizens do benefit Visa Waiver rights for their short-term journeys to the 34 European Countries linked to the border free travel area know as the Schengen Area.
As a direct consequence Montenegro Nationals too will, from early 2025, need to obtain an ETIAS Visa Waiver to perform this kind of travels.ETIAS: when, where and how to use it
It has although to be underlined that ETIAS is only valid for journeys to 34 EU/Schengen Area Nations. The United Kingdom has left the European Union in 2021 and never was part of the Schengen Area; UK is therefore not part of the ETIAS Area. The same basis applies to EIRE since it is an EU Member State, but it remains outside the European border-free travel area.
It is also very important to notice that applicants from Montenegro must be in possession of a valid biometric passport in order to submit an ETIAS candidacy. Holders of non-biometric passport from Montenegro are still currently required to apply for a Consular Visa.ETIAS application form
The electronic application for ETIAS has been designed to be easy to handle and will require petitioners just a few minutes of their time.

ETIAS application outcome
Once granted, the ETIAS approval will be sent directly to the applicants’ personal e-mail, and it is therefore important for each candidate to input a valid and working e-mail account when they fill out the required form.
It is expected that in most cases the outcome will be available in 72 hours since the application has been submitted through the ETIAS taxes payment.
Also, it must be remembered that each person planning to travel to the ETIAS Area, minors included, must hold an individual passport, and is therefore asked to apply for an ETIAS of his/her own.ETIAS use and validity
Once received the positive outcome, ETIAS Visa Waiver to citizens of Montenegro is valid for 3 years or until the passport expiry date (whichever incurs first) and allows multiple journeys to the EU / Schengen Area and it is valid to enter the 30 ETIAS Member States from either air, land and sea borders.
Upon each single travel taken on an ETIAS all the eligibility criteria, as summarized above, must be complied with. Also, the visitors’ passport must not just be valid, but is required to have at least 3 months of remaining validity from the scheduled departure date from the ETIAS Area.
