Micronesia and Europe. The situation to this day
Citizens of the Federated States of Micronesia can in most cases travel to Europe’s Schengen Area without a Visa thanks to the Visa Waiver agreement in force until early 2025.
This exemption from the obligation to have a valid Schengen Visa is valid for travels taking place for reasons of tourism and leisure, business and trade, medical treatments, transit and with a total stay within the Schengen Area of maximum ninety days.
However, 2025 will bring some change for the Citizens of Micronesia travelling towards Europe since on the one hand they will maintain their Visa Waiver rights while, on the other hand, they will be required to apply and obtain Europe’s newly established Visa Waiver named ETIAS.ETIAS application for Micronesians
European Union decided in 2016 that ETIAS System would be, right from its launch, a 100% digital process.
Therefore, Micronesia National can submit their ETIAS application online in just a few minutes without having to actually reach an Embassy or Consulate.
It is to be highlighted that all Nationals of Micronesia will need ETIAS for short trips to Europe’s ETIAS Area and this will therefore include minors whose application of course, must be submitted by an adult on their behalf.
The application process itself will be linear and simple since each candidate will just need to have basic credentials such as:- Have a valid passport of Micronesia
- Have a valid e-mail address
- Have a valid card on other electronical payment method for the ETIAS tax payment
While filling out the electronic application form, Micronesia passport holders will be asked for a series of data that will in most cases include:
- Full name and surname
- Surname at birth
- Birth date
- Birth place
- Birth country
- Passport number
- Passport’s place and authority of issue
- Passport’s issue and expiry date
- Contact details including a valid e-mail address
- Scheduled arrival date in ETIAS Area
- First country of intended stay in Europe
Data cross-checking and security clearance
Also, each candidate will be asked to answer a number of background questions to check his/her eligibility and to assess whether such candidate could represent a threat to any of the destination countries.
Although the application process is extremely simple, once the data have been sent through it is not possible to change them and even a slight mistake can lead to a rejection of the Visa Waiver. Hence it is strongly recommended that each applicant double checks all the data inputted for the ETIAS Visa Waiver request. After submitting all the data through the electronic payment process the application’s detail will go through a cross check by security database that will quickly establish whether the traveler is eligible for ETIAS and allow EU to than make a decision about the application itself.
The feedback, which is expected to be positive in most case, will be automatically sent to the applicant’s e-mail address usually within 72 hours.
The Visa Waiver will then have a validity of up to 3 years or until the passport expiry date (whichever incurs first) and allow multiple entries in any of the ETIAS Destinations for short term travels that comply with the general limitation as summarized in the key facts.
