Euro-Mexican relations to this day
With linguistic, cultural and commercial strong ties to Europe as a whole, Mexico has ever since been a firm partner to the EU and its Member Countries.
Such partnership has resulted, among other things, in Mexican Citizens being granted years ago Visa Waiver rights to a number of European Countries; these rights have recently been reconfirmed with the decision, taken by the European Union’s High Commission in 2016, to include Mexico among the recipient countries who would benefit from the ETIAS Visa Waiver System.
But how will Mexican Nationals travel regulations to Europe change with the inception of ETIAS happening in 2025?
Until late 2024 citizens of Mexico travelling on a short-term basis to the 34 EU/ Schengen Area Countries are only asked to have with them their valid passport. Starting from 2025 though, they will also need, prior to their departure, to be granted EU’s new Visa Waiver called ETIAS.
Even though this one more document will soon be necessary for Mexicans willing to arrange a journey to the EU/ Schengen Area, the application process for ETIAS Visa Waiver has been confirmed by the relevant EU Authorities to be quick, intuitive, and easy to manage.
Furthermore, the ETIAS System is expected to create swifter and more secure border checks upon arrival in Europe and, at the same time, to reduce the number of border rejections. EU officials report also state that this provision is therefore not expected to create any hindrance to the travel process and actually to favour the development of even deeper economic and cultural connections between EU itself and Visa Waiver Countries.ETIAS for Mexicans – application protocol
So as to submit their ETIAS application all candidates from Mexico, minors included through the aid of a parent or legal guardian, will be required to input their personal information, contact details, planned trip to ETIAS Area broad schedule and will also be required to answer a few background check questions to complete their form.
Once the request is completed and the payment done the feedback, positive in most cases, will then be sent via e-mail in usually no longer than 72 hours.
All travelers must make sure they received the ETIAS approval before their departure towards the Europe and they must also always make sure that their passport validity will have no less than three months of remaining validity for the whole stay of their planned stay in the ETIAS Area.
Once issued ETIAS Visa Waiver for Nationals of Mexico is valid for 3 years or until the passport expiry date (if that occurs in less than 3 years).ETIAS holders’ liability
Each ETIAS issued to Citizens of Mexico allows for multiple entries in the Schengen Area while always complying with the general limitations concerning purpose and duration of the trip as listed above.
Giving false or incomplete information while filling out the application form might result in ETIAS being denied or in passengers being rejected upon arrival at the Schengen Area land, sea or air border.
The Visa Waiver is only valid for journeys to the 34 European Countries that are to some extent connected to the Schengen Area. Not all nations in Europe or in the European Union either are part of such area; click below to see the updated list of countries that require Mexican Citizens to have a valid ETIAS.
