The ETIAS System that will at its inception include 34 European Nations has been implemented to favor the travel exchanges between EU and Visa Waiver countries by creating a safer travel environment that grants for a better protection of both incoming travelers and EU’s Borders.ETIAS: how to apply and receive the application outcome
The electronic application procedure aimed at obtaining a valid ETIAS will although be easy to handle and will only require each applicant a few minutes of time.
Like for other ETIAS Eligible Countries, Citizens of Marshall Islands will indeed just have to electronically insert the required data in a digital form to forward their application. Such data include personal information, contact details, specifics about the first planned trip to ETIAS Area and background eligibility questions.
The ETIAS approval will be sent directly to each applicants’ personal e-mail, and it is therefore important for each applicant to input a valid and working e-mail account when they fill out the required form.
Also, it must be kept in mind that each person planning to travel to the ETIAS Area, minors included, must hold an individual passport and is therefore asked to apply for an ETIAS of his/her own.ETIAS limitations of use and obligations
It must be highlighted that ETIAS is only valid for journeys to the 34 EU Countries that are part of the Schengen Area or its future or de facto Members. There currently is solely 1 EU Member Nation that is not to any legal extent connected to the Schengen Area and that therefore will not be applying the obligation for ETIAS to Visa Waiver Visitors and that country is the Republic of Ireland (EIRE).
The same condition applies to other countries that geographically located in Europe but that are outside the Schengen Area such as, for instance, UK, Russia and Turkey.
Once issued the ETIAS Visa Waiver issued to Marshall Islands passport holders is valid for up to 3 years and allows for multiple entries in each country that is Member or de facto Member of the Schengen Area.Additional documents and exceptions
Despite being in most cases necessary holding an ETIAS itself does not give a certainty that the Marshall Islands Passport holder will be allowed to enter Europe as the final decision on this aspect is only responsibility of the Border Control Officers.
Short-term visitors from Marshall Islands coming to Schengen Area might indeed, regardless of the place of origin of the journey, always be required to provide further documents like:
return ticket to origin country or onwards ticket to a non-ETIAS Member Country
proof of sufficient funds to support their stay
ETIAS is not required to citizens of Marshall Island that already hold a valid Schengen Visa or a valid permit of stay issued by one of the Schengen Member Countries.
To this extent in must additionally be emphasized that until their respective Schengen membership is perfected, a national Visa or Permit of Stay issued by Romania, Bulgaria or Cyprus will not be considered a valid exemption criterion from the obligation to hold an ETIAS or a Schengen Visa, while ETIAS will in any case be required to Visa Waiver visitors entering such States.
Persons wishing to live, work or study in Europe on a long-term basis must still apply for a Consular Visa although short term study programs can be allowed on an ETIAS.
