Liechtenstein and Europe relations
Situated in the Alpine region of central Europe, between Austria and Switzerland, the Principality of Liechtenstein is currently not a member of the European Union.
Despite this the country shares borders, customs and monetary union with Switzerland and, together with the partnering neighbor country, joined the Schengen Area in 2011.
Liechtenstein too will hence, from 2025, enforce a new border policy for Visa Waiver incoming travelers from 60 Nations.Liechtenstein ETIAS
As a matter of fact, the Principality of Liechtenstein too will require Visa Waiver visitors to hold a valid ETIAS to access its territory.
With the aim of creating a safer travel environment without creating any impediment to genuine visitors themselves the ETIAS application to Liechtenstein procedure has been conceived so as to be intuitive and easy to approach and is expected to require each petitioner no more than 10 minutes of time.
Moreover, it has been predicted that a vast majority of ETIAS applications will receive positive feedback and in less than 72 hours.
So as to submit their application for ETIAS all future travelers to Liechtenstein, including minors (through the aid of a parent or legal guardian), are asked to fill out a brief digital form where they are to report, in a complete and accurate way, their personal data and contact details, give information about the first planned trip towards Europe and answer a short series of background check and general eligibility questions.
Once the application feedback is available, ETIAS Visa Waiver will be sent to the personal e-mail of each individual applicant.Use of a valid ETIAS
Visa Waiver validity
ETIAS Visa Waiver is than valid for 3 years starting from its date of issue and allows for multiple trips in any of the 34 Member Countries provided that such trips comply with the general ETIAS limitations for purpose and duration of stay as mentioned above and furtherly analyzed here.
Applicants with a passport expiring in less than 3 years from the application submission date must remember that their ETIAS will cease to be valid along with the passport used for the electronic request procedure.Passport validity
Still, it is always important to remember that all Visa Waiver visitors to Liechtenstein and ETIAS Area in general must have a passport whose expiry date is at least three months away starting from the date they plan to leave from Europe.
Upon arrival
When arriving in the EU/Schengen Area, regardless of the place of origin of the transfer and regardless of the mean of transportation used, Border Control Officers will always have the authority to ask ETIAS holders to present additional documents so as to assess the purpose of their travel and to make sure no passenger plans to overstay within the border free travel Area.
Among the supporting documents that might be required are:- Return ticket to the country of origin
- Onwards ticket to a non-ETIAS country
- Health travel insurance
- Proof of sufficient funds to support one’s stay in the ETIAS Area
Any Visa Waiver citizen who is willing to move, work or study in the EU on a long-term basis will not be considered eligible for ETIAS and is still required to apply for Consular Schengen Visa.
