On Visa Waiver rights for Chileans visitors in Europe
These Visa Waiver rights currently allow Chilean Nationals to visit the majority of countries in Europe for leisure, business, transit or medical treatment alternatively for a permanence not to surpass 90 days in 6 months without the need for any Visa or other clearance.
Starting form early 2024 this will change since a valid ETIAS Visa Waiver will be also required to those willing to visit EU/Schengen Area countries for short trips with reason and duration as stated above.
As far as travel purposes are concerned it must be emphasised that also family and friends visit journeys are allowed since they are considered to fit in the leisure and tourism category.
Moreover, although ETIAS is not fit for long term study programs, the Visa Waiver can be used by Nationals of Chile for short training programs if the stay in the ETIAS Countries Area as a whole will not surpass the limit of 90 out of every 180 days. To this extent still it is always recommended, before applying for an ETIAS, to verify if the receiving school or institute in Europe accepts to enroll scholars with a Visa Waiver and not with a Schengen Study Visa.ETIAS benefits to travelers from Chile
Even though one more document will be necessary in order to arrange the trip towards more than 30 European destinations, the application process for the Visa Waiver named ETIAS has been confirmed to be a fast and uncomplicated process.

Minors too are therefore required to submit an ETIAS application by seeking support of a parent or legal guardian.

When electronically proceeding with ETIAS application all travellers with a passport issued by the Republic of Chile are required to input a short set of information.
Among these mandatory data are:- Full name and surname
- Date and place of birth
- Birth country
- Passport number
- Passport’s authority and place of issue
- Passport’s issue and expiry date
- Contact details including current address, phone number and valid e-mail address
- Scheduled arrival date in ETIAS Area and first country of intended stay
- Criminal record history (if any)
- Immigration history (if any)
- Public health risks associated to the person and a serie of disease this might be affected from
Once all the data have been correctly filled in the form and double-checked by the applicants themselves, the system, in order to send through the official request, will require the electronic payment of the due taxes.
Payment and official submission of the application will subsequently trigger the security screening protocols through which the destination countries will determine whether the traveler could represent a risk in either terms of healthcare and/or security.
The security clearance will in most cases be granted in less than three days and allow for the actual ETIAS to be issued.
Once the ETIAS request outcome will be available it will be sent via e-mail to each individual applicant.Leaving towards Europe on an ETIAS
All travellers must then make sure they received the ETIAS approval before their departure towards the EU and they must also always make sure that their passport validity will be able to cover for the whole stay of their planned trip with at least three exceeding months from the scheduled departure date from the Schengen Area.
Once issued the ETIAS Visa Waiver for Citizens of Chile is valid for 3 years or until the passport expiry date (whichever incurs first).
Since the Visa Waiver is electronically linked to the passport of the traveller it is not officially necessary, but still recommended, to print out a hard copy of the granted document.
Each clearance issued to Chilean travellers allows for multiple entries in each of ETIAS Destination States provided that each journey complies with the general limitations concerning purpose and duration of the trip as summarized above.
No ETIAS is required to visitors that hold a valid Schengen Visa or a Permit of Stay issued by any of the Schengen nations while, on the other hand, a Schengen Visa will be required to all those travellers whose situation does not fit in the ETIAS eligibility criteria.
